Welcome VEVO Australia!

Down Under is now on top – as far as the streaming of premium music videos goes, that is. VEVO Australia is up and running, bringing a wealth of sounds to Aussie and New Zealand fans. From Timomatic to Delta Goodrem (above) to The Temper Trap, the breadth of artists that VEVO offers is rather amazing. The 45,000 videos and pieces of original content in our Aussie library are offered in a free-streaming setting through the platform’s myriad entry points. As in America, Canada, and the U.K., users can enjoy the music online, on Xbox Live and on mobile devices for both iOS and Android systems, as well as share their favorite videos on Facebook and Twitter. That’s the VEVO way.

It was last February 8 when VEVO Facebook follower Ben Gollow queried us about our plans to set up shop in another part of the globe. “What about @VEVO_AU? Really need you to open up here in Australia!,” he wrote. Now it’s done, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. To celebrate the big day, VEVO Australia is featuring music by Reece Mastin, King Cannons, Sam Sparro, The Naked & Famous and others on its VEVO.com (AU) home page.

The move is a partnership with MCM Media, who will help program the site. Nic Jones, VEVO’s International Senior VP, responsible for the roll out, says Australia and New Zealand have always been high on the wish list. “VEVO’s mission is to connect fans with artists and music at any time and any place. Australia has everything you need to make VEVO work – a technology savvy country, audiences renowned worldwide for their music passion and a vibrant and diverse music scene. ”

Simon Joyce, MCM Media’s CEO, knows that this is going to bring a lot more music into fans’ lives. “VEVO is playing a key role in changing the way audiences consume music, as we move from the traditional model of owning to streaming – accessing all the music videos we want, wherever we are, on whatever device we choose. Australian audiences now have video access to their favourite artists like never before.”

Several artists are helping VEVO celebrate by making Celebrity Playlists of their recent favorite clips. Kylie Minogue is into Ladyhawke and Lana Del Rey. Swedish House Mafia guides us through a terrain that includes M83 and Calvin Harris. That’s just a bit of action. Start following @VEVO_AU for all the Aussie and New Zealand updates from now on. That’s where you’ll find out more info (including pics) about James Morrison‘s launch party showcase slated for this Tuesday, April 17th. We’re of course assuming that music fans in Britain know where to find out about U.K. action. Ditto for America.

Congrats to all!
